The 16th World Choreography Awards will hand its Legacy Award to Vincent Paterson on Nov. 8 at the Avalon Hollywood, in a live ceremony hosted by returning emcee Kevin Stea.

Who is Vincent Paterson?

Paterson — a choreographer, director, dancer and creative director — will be recognized for work spanning film, music videos, concert tours, television, Broadway, opera and commercials. His seven feature-film credits include "Evita," "The Birdcage," "Closer," "Dancer in the Dark," "Hook," "The Mighty Quinn" and "Mannequin." His most iconic collaborations: Michael Jackson and Madonna.

What does the format look like?

WCA founder and producer Allen Walls framed the night as a single-stage showcase: "This is an extraordinary one-night-only celebration bringing the world's most exceptional dance talent together on one stage," he said. Live performers include Chucky Klapow, Becca Sweitzer, Stea, Marie Poppins, Holden Maples, Erica Klein and Kelly Sweeney.

Eight competitive tracks will distribute trophies: Motion Picture, Music Video, Television Reality/Variety Show, Television Award Show/Special, Television Episodic, Commercials, Digital Content and Digital Content Independent.

Who is nominated?

"Dancing With the Stars" judge Derek Hough — who picked up a nomination alongside associates Hayley Erbert and Chase Haley Bowden for the show's 20th Birthday Party Night — headlines a field that also includes choreographers from "Sinners," "Kiss of the Spider Woman," "The Life of Chuck" and "A Very Jonas Christmas Movie."
