Tamara Tunie Leads 2026 Daytime Emmys Best Actress at 76.3%
Tamara Tunie holds a 76.3% probability of winning Best Drama Actress at the 2026 Daytime Emmys, per Gold Derby's predictive data — a commanding margin that puts her far ahead of four rivals, including her own Beyond the Gates co-star.
The CBS soap Beyond the Gates earned 15 nominations in its inaugural season, the most ever recorded for a first-year daytime series in modern Emmy record-keeping. The show itself marks a milestone: Beyond the Gates is the first new soap opera to launch in decades. Tunie anchors the cast as matriarch Anita Williams Dupree. Karla Mosley, second on the odds board at 7.9%, plays Anita's daughter Dani Dupree. Both women received their first-ever Daytime Emmy nominations. Beyond the Gates left Clifton Davis, who plays Vernon, off the nominations list.
What makes this a milestone field?
A Tunie victory would extend a recent run of Black winners in Best Drama Actress. Mishael Morgan of The Young and the Restless became the category's first Black winner in 2022. Debbi Morgan (All My Children) became the category's first Black nominee in 2009.
Two leads from the same freshman series competing head-to-head in one of daytime's marquee categories marks another first. Beyond the Gates debuted on CBS in early 2025 and came out swinging with the strongest opening bid any new soap has managed.
Why isn't vote-splitting a worry?
Vote-splitting has rarely swung Daytime Emmy drama races. Daytime draws from a small eligible pool, and co-stars have historically sorted through cleanly. In 2025, Nancy Lee Grahn topped Laura Wright — both of General Hospital. In 2020, Heather Tom beat her Bold and the Beautiful co-star Katherine Kelly Lang.
Who else is in the running?
- Michelle Stafford (The Young and the Restless) — 10.5% odds. A 14-time nominee who plays Phyllis Summers, Stafford has won three Daytime Emmys: 1997, 2004, and 2024.
- Heather Tom (The Bold and the Beautiful) — 5.3% odds. Tom plays Katie Logan and shares the all-time record for Daytime Emmy acting wins by a woman with Erika Slezak, six apiece.
- Stacy Haiduk (Days of Our Lives) — Haiduk plays Kristen DiMera and earned her first lead nomination after three prior supporting bids: Days in 2022 and 2023, and Y&R in 2017.
How does BTG's haul stack up?
The freshman soap posted the highest nomination total for any new daytime drama. The Young and the Restless sits ahead of BTG on the leaderboard with 18 nominations — the only series that outpaced the new show this year.
Beyond the Gates' 15 nominations make it the most-nominated freshman series in Daytime Emmy history, a haul topped only by The Young and the Restless, which scored 18 total this year.
Voters will deliver their final verdict at the 2026 Daytime Emmy Awards, scheduled for Oct. 30 at the Hollywood Palladium.
