Five films share the lead with four nominations each at the 2026 Gotham Film Awards: A24’s The Invite, All of a Sudden, Clarissa, La Gradiva and Tender Loving Care. The Nov. 30 ceremony in New York City will reveal the winners.

What did A24 place in the race?

Olivia Wilde’s dark comedy The Invite earned nominations for Best Feature, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Performance for Penélope Cruz and the Gotham Audience Award. The Gotham’s acting categories do not use gender. A24 can claim one of the year’s most-nominated films.

The Invite shares the lead with four other films rather than standing alone.

What does the documentary nomination change?

Since its first preview at the Telluride Film Festival in September, audiences have debated how much of You Can See Everything counts as a documentary. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s documentary-narrative hybrid offers a blockbuster profile of fallen Big Tech star Elizabeth Holmes.

The Gotham nominated it for Best Documentary Feature and the Audience Award, but not Best Feature, Best Director or Best Supporting Performance.

The Audience Award returned after a six-year hiatus, and its nominations partly depend on box-office returns and Letterboxd acclaim, much like the Golden Globe’s Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award. Gold Derby’s odds give You Can See Everything a serious chance at a Best Picture nomination for the 2027 Oscars if the Academy passes it over in Best Documentary.

Two nominations keep You Can See Everything in contention without settling its Best Picture case.

Why did Netflix miss Best Feature?

Four Oscar-contending Netflix titles missed the Best Feature list: La Bola Negra, Possible Love, Ink and The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. La Bola Negra had previously picked up key precursor prizes at Cannes and Toronto.

The international trio of La Bola Negra, Possible Love and Ink were not submitted for Best Feature because they did not meet the category’s eligibility requirements. The Gotham’s Best Feature rule states:

Best Feature must be directed, and/or produced (credited “producer” or “produced by”), and/or written by individuals who are U.S. citizens or permanently U.S.-based. A minimum of two different individuals across these roles are required.

If the film’s director is American as defined and fulfills at least two of these roles, this is sufficient for eligibility.

Those rules did not keep the films out of every race. La Bola Negra reached the Audience Award, while Possible Love collected nominations for Best International Feature, Best Original Screenplay and Best Lead Performance for Jeon Do-yeon.

A Netflix source told Gold Derby that the David Fincher-directed sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was not submitted before the Gotham deadline. Netflix screened its first 17 minutes at AFI Fest on Friday, ahead of its Thanksgiving release in Imax theaters.

Netflix’s omissions remove four titles from Best Feature, but not from every Gotham category.
