Tony Awards Lock In CBS Broadcast Deal Through 2032
CBS and Tony Award producers have extended their broadcast agreement through 2032, keeping the ceremony on the network past its 80th edition airing June 13, 2027.
Judges’ notes
- CBS will broadcast the Tony Awards through 2032 under the newly extended agreement.
- The 80th Annual Tony Awards air live June 13, 2027 on CBS and stream on Paramount+ Premium.
- CBS has broadcast the Tony Awards for 48 consecutive years, since 1978.
- Raj Kapoor, Sarah Levine Hall and Jack Sussman return to produce the 2027 show.
CBS will broadcast the Tony Awards through 2032, under an extension announced by the network and the show's producers, the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League. The deal secures the ceremony's television home past its 80th edition and adds several years of certainty to a partnership that began in 1978.
The announcement names no financial terms, but it fixes two outcomes that matter for the broadcast calendar. First, the ceremony stays on CBS, its only network home for 48 consecutive years. Second, the 80th Annual Tony Awards will air live to both coasts on CBS and stream on Paramount+ (Premium) in the United States on Sunday, June 13, 2027.
What did the producers say?
Heather Hitchens, President and CEO of the American Theatre Wing, and Jason Laks, President of The Broadway League, issued a joint statement: "We are thrilled to extend our long-standing partnership with CBS. For the past 48 years, we have collaborated with CBS to bring the best of Broadway to theatre fans all around the world and we look forward to marking the 80th anniversary of the Tony Awards with our best show yet."
Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, framed the deal as part of the network's broader arts strategy. "CBS has a celebrated history of supporting the creative arts on television and the Tony Awards are a cornerstone of that past, present and future," Reisenbach said. "George Cheeks and I are thrilled to extend the network's 48-year partnership with the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League and showcase the extraordinary talent, unforgettable performances and incomparable energy of Broadway to viewers across the country for years to come."
The reference to CBS chairman George Cheeks signals that the extension carries approval at the top of the network, not only within the entertainment division.
Who runs the 2027 show?
The production structure for the 80th edition is already set. The Tony Awards are produced in collaboration with Tony Award Productions, a joint venture of the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League, and the returning team breaks down as follows:
- Producers: Raj Kapoor, Sarah Levine Hall and Jack Sussman return for the 2027 show
- Co-showrunners: Raj Kapoor and Sarah Levine Hall
- Co-executive producers: Patrick Menton and Rob Paine
- Head of talent: Patrick Menton, in addition to his producing duties
What changes in the awards race?
In practical terms, the extension removes a question mark that ceremonies without long-term deals carry into every season. Nominating committees, campaign consultants and press agents now know the broadcast platform, the streaming partner and the air date for the anniversary edition well in advance.
The dual-platform arrangement — live on CBS and on Paramount+ Premium — also settles how the show reaches audiences who have cut cable, which matters for ratings-dependent awards broadcasts. Organizers said additional information on the 80th Annual Tony Awards will be announced in the coming weeks.
The takeaway: Broadway's biggest night stays where it has lived since 1978, now guaranteed through 2032.
